Emerging Youth Services Librarian
4+ years of experience with families and children of all ages
About Me
My name is Abby Huennekens (she/her), and I am an emerging youth services librarian focused on serving children and young adults in public library settings. I am particularly interested in libraries as inclusive community hubs where young people can learn, explore, and build meaningful connections.
I am motivated by the role libraries play as welcoming, equitable spaces that foster curiosity, creativity, and lifelong learning. I find the greatest satisfaction in supporting children and teens as they discover new interests, build confidence, and engage with their communities. I am seeking opportunities in public libraries where I can contribute to youth services through innovative programming, outreach, and community-centered initiatives. My goal is to help libraries expand their impact as dynamic spaces that support the developmental, educational, and social needs of young people and their families. I am especially interested in roles that allow me to design inclusive programs that reflect the diversity of the communities they serve.
I invite you to explore my portfolio to see a selection of the children's and youth services programs I designed, wrote, and facilitated as part of my Master of Library and Information Science coursework at the University of Washington iSchool. These projects reflect my commitment to creating engaging, inclusive, and community-centered library experiences for young people and their families.
