Special Education Preschool

There is nothing quite like working with young children to strengthen patience, empathy, and adaptability. My time as a paraeducator in a special education preschool classroom at Olympia School District instilled in me a deep compassion and commitment to supporting children with diverse needs. I helped facilitate learning experiences through dramatic play, peer relationship-building, STEM activities, and creative arts while fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment.

Our classroom served children with a wide range of needs, including autism, physical disabilities, speech delays, and developmental disabilities. Alongside the classroom teacher and fellow paraeducator, I helped implement individualized strategies and supports tailored to each child’s developmental goals. This experience strengthened my interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills as we worked closely together to ensure every child received the care and encouragement they needed to succeed.

Most importantly, this role reinforced my ability to connect with children and families from all backgrounds and taught me the importance of collaboration and compassion in both formal and informal learning environments.
